A guide to: Marseille, France

Updated: Nov 24, 2021

In September of this year, my sister, mum and I went on a long weekend to Marseille, and it quickly became one of our favourite European cities we had visited. Located in the French Riviera, the warm breeze from the Mediterranean meant the city was a pleasant warm surprise.

The Café Culture

The food and drink in Marseille was a highlight of the trip. We spent mornings soaking up the sun in the hidden courtyards with fresh pastries and orange juice. In the evenings, the hidden courtyards came to life, filling with locals listening to live music and catching up with friends.

Le Panier

This quant neighbourhood is tucked into the backroads of Marseille, escaping from the hustle of the busy port city. Independent shops showcasing pottery, clothing. local delicacies and more are dotted throughout the cobbled roads. Hours can be spent wondering through Le Panier, taking in the old, rickety looking houses, the smells escaping from the soap shops and the vibrant colours all around.

A Boat Day

We spent a gorgeous day sailing and swimming off the coast of Marseille. Our sailer knew the perfect spots to anchor his boat, even showing us which rocks were the best to cliff jump off. We left the boat feeling very sun kissed and full of happy memories in a beautiful setting.
